Mega x SM Fashion Show

Last November, I was invited by a friend to attend the first among the three series of the Mega x SM Ladies' Fashion Show, featuring their Color Blocking, Cosmic Colors and Global Nomads collections, held at Prive Luxury Club. I have lots of photos of the fashion show but decided not to post them here because I'm sure you'll find even better pictures of them on the net. So I'm posting here photos you won't find anywhere else online - snapshots of us taken during the event. Haha. :)

Little Black Dress

This is one of my outfits for our yearbook shots. We were required to wear something black for our batch picture and since I didn't have time to plan what to wear (again!), I went for this classic black dress. I bought this roughly three years ago from Topshop and it never goes out of style! And I love it even more because it's lace!

I'm in Cebu right now to attend a wedding and I'm flying back to Manila on January 2, just in time for our first day of class on 2013. I'll be spending New Year's Eve here, my first time to spend NYE away from home (but still with family). So excited to see what's in store for me in the coming days!

Season of Opulence Fashion Show

Shangri-La Plaza proved itself once more as one of the metro’s preferred style sources as it unveiled the hottest picks of the season with Season of Opulence, its 2012 Holiday Fashion Show.

Held at the lifestyle destination’s Grand Atrium, the highly anticipated fashion event offered Manila’s most discerning style setters a coveted preview of what to expect this holiday season from select top clothing brands; while also parading the impressive diversity of Shang’s merchandise mix.

Popular high street labels Marks & Spencer, Zara, Debenhams, Topshop, Mango, and Warehouse wowed audiences with noteworthy runway revelations that showcased key trends for the celebrated fashion season.

Premium brands Gap, K & Co, Mico Boutique, Celine, Celio, Daniel Hechter, Onitsuka Tiger, Massimo Dutti, Bauhaus, Nautica, Ben Sherman, Original Penguin, and Anthem likewise reigned on the catwalk, presenting their own distinct interpretations of how to stand out in style during the holidays.

Of course, also not to miss were laudable anthologies from Rustan’s Department Store and Crossings Department Store, turning some of the season’s most wanted looks into wearable creations fit for stylish urbanites to don during the much awaited iconic series of gatherings and special affairs the most wonderful time of year often brings.

Thanks Bianca for inviting me! Enjoy the holidays everyone!! :)

Snoe Here Comes the Sunblock SPF45

I told you before in one of my previous posts that I'll be posting reviews of some Snoe beauty products. This one in particular is my favorite- the Here Comes the Sunblock Instant White SPF 45 Sun Lotion with Singkamas. I was a bit hesitant to buy this at first because I have lots of sunblock products at home, but the ones I met at the Snoe bloggers event convinced me to buy one for myself, saying that it really is good. Unlike other sunblock formulations, this one is non-greasy. There's no need to apply powder afterwards to make your face look less oily. Also, it is very smooth and easy to apply. You only need a small amount for your whole face. One bottle will last for a few months if you use it every day on your face, and less when you use it on your arms as well. Aside from the sun protection, this product gives you a whiter complexion instantly and also has anti-aging properties. Most of the time, I use this as a substitute for BB cream because it gives the same result on my face, with the added advantage of a high SPF. And lastly, it's very affordable!

Too good to be true? Try one now and see for yourself! :)

Snoe Bloggers Event

I was able to attend the 3rd Semi-Annual Bloggers Event of Snoe, where they showcased their past, present and future products. A week after this event, I needed to delete some photos from my memory card to make room for new ones. I deleted most of the photos from this event, knowing that I already transferred them to my laptop. Apparently, I was wrong. Now I'm left with only these photos taken during the later part of the event.

I told my friends about Snoe, turned out that they've been using some of their products for a while now and they love it! :) For complete descriptions of their products, visit their official website here. Watch out for my reviews on Snoe products!

Wild Child

I haven't worn this jacket ever since I bought it at H&M. The heat here in the Philippines made it literally impossible for me to wear this on a regular day. So the second I knew that I'd be going to the extremely cold SMX for fashion week, I made a mental note to myself to wear the things that I've barely worn, specially those pieces intended for colder weather. At first, I wanted to pair this jacket with my leather pants but figured that I might have a hard time walking due to my leather pants being insanely tight. I settled for this skirt instead and went match-y match-y with my wedges.

They Call it Preppy

It's not everyday that you'll see me in an outfit like this. It's just not me. I was a bit shocked actually that I came up with this outfit. The whole day, I was constantly reminding myself that it's okay and that there's nothing wrong with what I was wearing. But deep inside, I was cringing with disgust and at the same time, itching to get out of these clothes. Haha. This was clearly one of my attempts in becoming more experimental with fashion. I just noticed that I'm always gearing towards the classy, neutral, and prim and proper-ish look. What do you think? Did I do okay?

Gold Accents

These photos were taken last October during the Philippine Fashion Week. Talk about major backlog. Anyway, this was the time when I was too lazy and couldn't think of anything to wear no matter how hard I try. Then, just before the event, an idea struck me! I remembered that I hadn't worn this jacket ever since I bought it from Joanna Ladrido's booth at the Bloggers' United 2 (Don't remember my steals at the BU2? Click here!). It was the perfect time to wear the jacket, because the baroque trend is so much in season! This was also the first time I was able to wear my peplum shorts. We usually see peplum in skirts, dresses and tops but rarely in shorts, which is why I bought it! The shorts being on sale at Php150 was definitely a plus!

My friend, Phya, told me that we should have our make up done at the L'Oreal booth. The make-up artist who did my makeup was amazing! The pictures are enough proof, don't you think? :)

The Show

I was supposed to post this after my entry on the fashion show which I became a part of last month (this post), but I forgot. Haha. Anyway, what I wore was a sheer animal print button down over a plain spaghetti top. I wore light pieces knowing that I would be on-the-go the whole day. I was wearing a necklace with this outfit but removed it when I was having my make up done and eventually forgot to put it back on before these shots were taken. Haha. Here is another off duty look which I also wore, this time, to a photo shoot.

Playful Meets Edgy

Been planning this look ever since I got hold of this colorful crop top from Forever 21. It's such a steal, don't you think? Instead of pairing it with equally bright colors for a summery vibe, I decided to do the unconventional by combining it with the color black as can be seen in my bag, shoes and accessories.

Did you notice my new header? My blog is now officially called 'The Glamourtini'. I've had the domain name for quite some time now and I'm planning to change my layout as well. Do you like it?  :)

Thanks to Jonan Regalario for my lovely logo and header! :)

Printed

Two words that describe me right now: dead tired. Just came back from the drugstore I'm having my internship in and I'm literally stopping myself from dozing off. This week was packed with work (internship), dinners with friends, church obligations, parties, going to the gym, a pictorial for our yearbook and even more things in between. Twenty four hours in a day doesn't seem to be enough. On the plus side, I love being busy and doing so many things. I enjoy the challenge and the sense of achievement in finishing all the things I have to do in a short period of time.

Okay, I think I'm getting carried away. I just wanted to share what I wore at the Super Sale Bazaar several weeks ago. I didn't have time to mix and match so I chose to wear this dress and accessorized with a belt. Also, did you notice my hair? I'm not one who knows how to fix her hair properly and this is probably one of the very few times I did with the help of the bump-its from 1721. My hair is very flat and definitely needs volume, and the bump-its did just that!

BDJ Fair- Fashion Show

You may have heard of the Belle de Jour Fair last month at the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall. It was a whole day event where you could choose to hear talks from different speakers or just roam around the booths and try different games and activities. The models were required to arrive at 8 am for the fashion show rehearsal. After the rehearsal, we had the rest of the day to ourselves, then we had to go back to the tent at around 3 pm for the hair and makeup. The fashion show was scheduled to be sometime between 7 pm and 9 pm. It was such a magical experience for me because this is the first time I've ever been in a fashion show. I can't quite believe it even until now. I met a lot of new friends, and had the opportunity to be styled by Sidney Yap for the fashion show. Did I mention that he owns a HUGE collection of accessories which are to die for (!!!)? Haha. Plus, I considered myself lucky for meeting Divine Lee before her talk. She was very nice and down to earth! Thank you BDJ for this wonderful experience and to Joy for coordinating the fashion show! Thanks also to the friends who supported me, who went there and watched the fashion show - Phya, Marianne and Cindylene! It meant a lot to me. :)

Sparkle and Shine

My friend Phya and I attended this event in Sofitel with the theme Brazilian Samba. I had a hard time thinking of what to wear so I settled in wearing a sequined top with my Oasap skirt. Btw, I've been meaning to show you a photo of me wearing hair extensions from 1721 and finally I have a decent one! Click the button below to see a closer view of my hair. It's because I usually wear my extensions at night and the photos don't look that good. What do you think of my look? :)

Black and White Color Block

Wore this black and white ensemble to the Schu Fashion Blogging Workshop. Figured that it would be a good opportunity to wear my black mullet skirt for the first time, and decided to do color blocking by pairing it with this top. We usually see color blocking in loud and bright colors especially last season but since it's starting to get rainy, I was in the mood to wear just black and white. Thanks to my friend Phya for letting me borrow her lovely belt which complements my outfit oh so much and for taking my photos!

My ear cuff is from Peaches On Top. Hopefully, I'll be able to post a clearer picture of me wearing it. :)

Schu Fashion Blogging Workshop

Remember the fashion blogging workshop I told you about here? Well, it turned out to be so much more fun than I expected! Let's see, I had the chance to visit Schu Factory Outlet, where they sell shoes at much lower prices than what you see in malls. It also houses Myth Boutique, which has a branch in Greenbelt that carries designs by Filipino designers, and Bling Duck. I had the opportunity to make new friends, and learn about the do's and dont's of fashion blogging. Thank you so much Gia of Schu and Arvin of Myth Boutique for having us! And thank you Seph Cham and Shai Lagarde of Love Chic for the wonderful talk! Such a lovely couple! Don't you agree? :)

More of my outfit on my next post!

The Classic Button Down

The button down is such a classic piece! I'm sure you considered of buying one at one point in your life. But before buying one, just like any other piece of clothing, make sure that the fit is right for you. I've had enough ill-fitting ones and trust me, it does make a big difference. You just have to look hard enough for the perfect one for you! What I love about button downs is that you can wear it with anything you want: be it printed shorts, floral skirt, or denim jeans, you name it! Its versatility makes it a must have in every girl's closet. And if you're an avid reader of my blog, you know I'm a sucker for classic pieces!

Fall Dressing

We don't have the four seasons in this country but that shouldn't stop us from wearing pieces that are inspired by these seasons. This outfit reminded me of fall because of its subtle and warm hues. The cardigan is such a statement! Do you think so too? :)

Sorry for the lack of posts. It's my finals week and my studies are taking almost all of my time. I have so many things to tell you guys, especially about last weekend. Definitely one of my most memorable ones! :)

A Touch of Neon + Winner of Fit Avenue giveaway

This dress is perfect for the beach but since I don't think I'll be lounging under the sun anytime soon, I decided to wear this to a normal day out. The dress looks very simple when viewed from the front but what grabbed my attention are the details at the back. Don't you just love the slight hint of neon? :) For starters, this dress is perfect for those who are not yet that comfortable wearing solid neon colors. What do you think? :)

Russian inspired

I was feeling a bit experimental and decided to sport a look which you don't usually see in this country. It's probably because this outfit is for a slightly colder weather. Anyway, I went for a poncho with leather pants and topped it off with a fur hat and leopard print ankle boots. You can't see the boots here but you can have a peek if you look hard enough on the second photo. As for the fur hat, I always think that it looks kinda like the hats Russians wear in movies. Haha.

Thanks to my awesome photographer friends, Mika Singson for the first photo and Maui Uy for the second! :)

Off duty

I was chosen as one of the models for this certain brand. I can't tell you which one yet! It's a surprise!  I figured that I should wear something comfortable and one that wouldn't ruin my hair or my makeup when I change to a plain black top, which we were required to wear. Anyway, it was such an experience and ultimate plus side was I got to meet lots of amazing friends!

Thank you so much to my architect-blogger friend, Maricar de Dios for the photos! :)

Pink stripes

This outfit makes me think of summer because of its playful colors. When dressing up, I usually start with one piece of clothing, then build my whole outfit around it. This time, I started out with this striped skirt and decided that it would look great with a basic white tank. I added this anchor cropped jacket to make it look more polished and finished it off with my turquoise wedges. When choosing which accessories to wear, make sure they go well with the rest of your outfit. For instance, if you're wearing a rocker outfit, you can choose accessories with studs, spikes or metallics.

Rainy day friday

Hello guys! I've been featured in SM-Youth's Campus Style Fashion Radar! I remember it was a rainy day and I just got back from shopping in SM Mall of Asia. I got first dibs on all the fabulous sale items in Forever 21 just because I went there so early. Haha. There were lots of fabulous finds ranging from only P200-P450! I''ll show them to you in my future outfit shots. Hihi.

I paired this printed top with a bold colored skirt and minimal accessories for a classy vibe. You can also opt to do print on print by pairing a top like this with skirts/shorts/pants with a larger print. I want to see your style as well! Hope you can leave a comment here on how you pulled off the print on print trend. :)

Denim on Denim

I've always wanted to do denim on denim. I bought a denim top but after trying it out at home, I realized that it doesn't look good tucked into a pair of denim shorts. I resorted to this denim vest instead (which is actually my sister's, haha). I wore an orange tank and this pair of lovely shoes so as to add some color to my outfit. You can also experiment with the denim on denim trend by trying on different cuts and washes. Hope you can also share your thoughts about this trend by leaving a comment below. :)

Press Shift

Remember the big Mango sale two months ago? Well, I couldn't resist the low prices for such good quality clothing so I ended up buying heaps. One of them is this shift dress. This dress hugs my body in all the right places and that's not a usual thing to see especially with me having no figure at all. Anyway, I wore this outfit to a formal school event last month. This will be my last year in college and I'll be graduating next year! Finally!!! :)

Thank you Sherry Yao for the photos!

The Girl in Pink

I told you in one of my posts that I'm not usually a fan of pink, but right now I can't get enough of it! Next color to love: red! I've always found the color red unflattering. Last night, I was looking for something red to wear on a birthday celebration. And being the Chinese that I am, we are required (not really required, but more of highly recommended) to wear red on birthdays. I didn't find a single one on my wardrobe. Hmm, does red-orange count? Haha.

Happy first birthday Hey, It's Alyssa Yu!

I can't believe it's been a year since I started this blog. Looking back, I barely recognize this quiet girl who only kept to herself, too embarrassed to tell the world who she was and what she was capable of. I admit that there had been so many changes in my life and this blog helped me to improve and change for the better. This blog means a lot to me and this is why I'm celebrating my blog's first year in the online world! :)

There are so many things I have to be thankful for. I wouldn't be in this place without my readers who give me constant inspiration to keep posting in this blog. I want to thank my boyfriend, Ryan, for being ever so patient with me especially if I have to tell everyone to stop and pause at the most inconvenient of situations just so I can take a picture of it, and for the endless suggestions he gave me to improve this blog; to my sister, Via who I always ask to proofread my blog posts (I was never that good in grammar) and the one I turn to for help every time I have to choose one picture over another; and to my friends who supported me all the way (shout out to Phya, Fran, Marianne and Cindylene!) I experienced so many ups and downs- there was even a point when I wanted to shut down this blog because I thought that this was not going to be long term. But hey, people sacrifice for the things they love doing. And blogging is definitely one of mine.

Thank you so much to my followers and for all the comments you left on my posts. Thanks to my sponsors- Fab Manila, Feet for a Queen and Twinkies Inc.. I never expected that my blog will be this successful and to tell you the truth, that it will last this long.  I learned so much from this experience and I wouldn't be here without all of you. Again, thank you! :)

Pastels

How was your long weekend everyone?

Our internet connection just got up and working this afternoon so I wasn't able to post anything here during the weekend. It's so great to be able to blog again! Now on to my outfit, I've been meaning to wear pastels for the longest time and ta-daa, here it is! The top and the shorts are practically the only pastel pieces I have in my closet. To focus the attention on the colors, I kept the accessories at a minimum, just a pearl detachable collar and pearl earrings.

Spent the afternoon in Greenbelt with friends, had lunch at Bulgogi Brothers, watched The Amazing Spiderman and stayed at Spicy Fingers afterwards. I'm not into Korean cuisine but I'm happily satisfied with the food served in Bulgogi Brothers, even came back there around a week ago! If you liked my page on Facebook or if you're a Twitter/Instagram follower, you'll probably remember my post on the Korean fish ice cream? That was in Bulgogi Brothers!

If you're wondering who took the photos for this post it might be me, Adson, Phya, Ryan, Fran or the waiters in the restaurants. I just can't tell which took which. Haha.

Neutrals

Here I am with one of my favorite outfits! I wore this to the I'm Shoe in Love Bazaar in NBC Tent last month. I wasn't planning on buying anything but at the end of the day, I was able to buy a pair black flats from Suelas. I was on the lookout for a comfortable pair of black flats for a long time now, because a lot of pairs give my feet blisters. So anyway, everybody was panic buying there in the bazaar, and tons of people were in the Suelas booth. So I tried on a pair of flats and thought that it's one of the most comfortable pairs ever so I bought it. Later that afternoon, I wore it outside and realized that the shoes was too big for me. :( I still wear it anyway. Haha.

Thanks to Ryan for the pictures! Hope you're always this awesome. Hihi. :)

Pray for the Philippines

Hi guys! Hope you're all safe from last week's calamity. I think we've finally learned from Ondoy, Reming, and all other typhoons that ravaged our country. Rescue and relief operations became more systematic and it looked like more people decided to get involved. I am happy and proud at the same time for all the Filipinos who helped in rescuing those who were in need and helping with relief operations. I'm sure everyone can see by now how we in the Philippines help each other. From what I've seen, it is clear that we can achieve great things if we stand by each other. I think this is a perfect example of how we practice the traditional 'bayanihan' in present times. (To those who don't know, bayanihan was an old practice in the Philippines where people in the community help a family carry their house to a new location) Although the monsoon rains are finally over, let us continue to pray for those families who were deeply affected by the flood and are currently in the evacuation centers. Let's continue to help one another and show the world what we're capable of.

If you want to help through donations, you can visit the website of Philippine Red Cross at redcross.org.ph and for a list of evacuation centers and donation drop-offs, you can click here

Van Gogh is Bipolar

Last month, in celebration of my birthday, I asked my boyfriend to go with me to a restaurant we haven't tried before. I wanted it to be something new and out of the ordinary. Later on, we decided to eat at Van Gogh is Bipolar in Quezon City. We didn't know what to expect but positive reviews about this place are all over the internet.

We were greeted by Jetro, the owner and chef of the restaurant. And as you may have guessed, he has bipolar disorder. However, he sees it as more of a blessing than a curse. Because of this condition, he started creating dishes using ingredients that help improve one's mood. Initially created for himself, he started serving these dishes to others and that's how Van Gogh is Bipolar was born. What's even more interesting is that the menu changes once in a while so expect that you'll be eating a different dish on your next visit! If you want to know more about what kind of food is being served, visit the Facebook page of van Gogh is Bipolar here.

Girly Girl

I don't usually like seeing the color pink on my wardrobe except for this particular shade. I find them too loud and girly for my taste. Probably the same reason why I'm not that into colorful pieces. Yes, I do buy some occasionally when I'm in the mood but I don't see myself wearing those in an everyday basis. In the end, I stick to where I'm comfortable at- neutrals. I believe these colors are must-haves in a girl's wardrobe because they're so easy to mix and match and they don't usually get outdated. Do you guys agree? :)

P.S. My face looks so shiny in these photos cause I forgot to put powder after applying sunblock. Teehee! :)

P.P.S. Have you joined my giveaway yet?
